A low-energy home on a compact Bristol infill site, combining timber-frame and hempcrete construction with passive design and the creative reuse of an existing garage.
A compact family home designed for a constrained urban infill site behind a row of terraced houses. The project reuses an existing garage structure and combines timber-frame construction with highly insulated hempcrete walls.
South-facing glazing, roof overhangs and external louvres balance daylight and winter solar gain with summer shading. Photovoltaic and solar thermal panels support the home’s low-energy ambitions, while green roofs provide habitat and retain rainwater.
Planning permission was granted in July 2025, and the project is now under construction. Following the development of the technical design, work on site is bringing the timber-frame and hempcrete home to life. Visit our blog for photographs and updates on the build.
