A low-energy hempcrete home that transforms a constrained Bristol infill site through natural materials, passive design and reuse of an existing garage.
A compact family home designed for a constrained urban infill site behind a row of terraced houses. The proposal reuses an existing garage structure and combines timber-frame construction with highly insulated hempcrete walls.
South-facing glazing, roof overhangs and external louvres balance daylight and winter solar gain with summer shading. Photovoltaic and solar thermal panels support the home’s low-energy ambitions, while green roofs provide habitat and retain rainwater.
Planning permission was granted in July 2025 following careful development of the design to address access, privacy and neighbouring properties.
